The first song we ever wrote together was our wedding vows.
Shortly after, Deena was diagnosed with cancer: a tumor on the roof of her mouth with a prognosis to likely damage her ability to speak and sing again. Days before the complicated surgery, we decided to record our wedding vows song, both quietly knowing it might be the last time we'd ever get to sing it together. After many months of recovery, not only did we realize Deena still could sing, but songs started pouring out of her.
And in parallel, it was the first time that Austin, who’d previously written in a band and for other artists, got quiet enough to hear his own voice, expressing a more vulnerable side of himself. It was Somewhere in Between Deena’s healing and Austin’s slowing down that this project was born.
When asked what kind of music we make, we say: the kind that helps us navigate life through all its twists and turns.
Making this album has been a true love affair: Austin produced it and we recorded it in the old barn where we got married, in rural Quebec, Canada, surrounded by thousands of acres of deep forest, a calm lake, and a flowing river.
We’ve each had previous creative endeavors, but we feel so lucky we’ve gotten to do this project together, as well as alongside some of our closest friends.
We never set out to make an album, or even one song for that matter, but here we are.
Somewhere in Between awake and asleep, our questions get answered and songs get written.
Somewhere In Between our opinions, we find common ground.
Somewhere In Between you and me, is us.
Somewhere In Between the beginning and end is the journey.
Hope to see you along the way :)
